Mr. Thompson received a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and a Juris Doctorate from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of the College of William and Mary. After graduation from law school, Mr. Thompson served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Roanoke (1980-82) and the City of Portsmouth (1982-84). In 1984, he entered private practice. In 1996, he joined the firm of Cooper, Spong and Davis. His principal areas of practice are personal injury, railroad (FELA), criminal, and traffic. He is a member of Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Virginia Bar Association, Portsmouth Bar Association and Chesapeake Bar Association, and is licensed to practice law in Virginia, Washington and West Virginia. He appears regularly before the General District and Circuit Courts throughout Virginia and has appeared before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Virginia, and the Court of Appeals of Virginia.
He attends Trinity Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and is active in travel baseball. His wife, Diane, practices law in Suffolk, and they have three children, Andrew, Lindsey, and Nicholas.
